Great Shoe

Ghost 18 were terrible shoes.

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

I hate these shoes if I could give them a 0 rating I would. They have your heel lifted up and all your weight is on the ball of your foot. Why can't brooks leave these shoes alone have you ever heard if it ain't broke don't fix it. I sent the ghost 18 back they were not wearable. I am looking at Hoka and some other brands. I have been wearing ghost shoes for 12 years but will have to start wearing something else.

Ghost 18

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

I’ve worn Brooks for over 10 years. The last good Brooks shoe was the ghost 16. I don’t know why shoe designers have moved to making all shoes with big stack heights and think that everyone wants a plushy shoe. Designers are also making shoes to narrow. Here is my recommendation for the design/marketing team. Start giving customers options. Offer a couple of models with low, more firm stack heights, keep the same width as the ghost 16’s, and reduce the heel to toe drop to 8mm or 5mm. Some people prefer a more “old school connected to the ground feel” rather than the instability created from feeling like you are walking on a cloud. I’m very disappointed with the direction Brooks and most shoe makers are moving towards. There are many other customers who feel the same way. You will expand your customer base by offering more options. Many people have moved away from brooks to go with other brands like Altras and Topos because they offer lower stack heights, lower heel to toe drops, and have a wider toe box.

The firmness I was looking for

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was looking for a shoe that feels a little firmer underfoot than my go-to shoe for long runs. I want to alternate between plush cushion and a firmer cushion. This one fits the bill. It’s firmer, and not too firm.

I have been wearing Ghosts since Ghost 7. These are the first ones that feel completely different from the previous. Something about shoe is narrower causing pain in toe area and bunion on small toe. I had to double check size thought I had gotten smaller size

Comfortable shoe, with professional look.

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this shoe because I can run in it with comfort. Also, when I buy a new one I like to get black on black because they look good for a long time, and initially I will wear to work before I turn it into my daily runner. Thanks Brooks for making such a versatile shoe and offering the wide size so it actually fits!

Great new model

I’ve been an avid runner for several years and have completed 10 marathons with various iterations of the Ghost. It’s my go to shoe because it works with my type of foot. This version is lighter and more conforming to my foot. Love it

Perfection!!!

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted something soft but still flexible, Ghost 18 was exactly what I was looking for. The upper is so breathable and soft, the tongue is almost sock-like! Over all: dependable, comfortable, and easy to disappear underfoot. IYKYK Also, the white and green color way with the gum sole is SO good, so old school, I love it!

Heel drop don’t shop.

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted to love these shoes. I gave them a few weeks. Walking, running, movement. Coming from a 15 month old pair of Ghost 16s, and before that Adrenaline GTS 23s, I was expecting a dramatic upgrade in support and foot feel and was left disappointed. First: The heel completely collapses under any amount of pressure. I don’t pretend to be a lightweight at all, at 230lbs I’m quite the opposite, I buy high end shoes because of it. Every step I take feels like there is an empty air pocket in the heel and it bottoms out. I can feel my heel drop a few mm with each step and it’s not a gentle drop, I might as well be barefoot. Second: I got the extra wide, I can wear a wide but like the extra room to splay my toes, there isn’t any extra room. The extra wide is about the same width as my wide shoes. And not as wide as my Ghost 16 4Es toe box. However the heal and mid-foot are wider. Third: the tongue, no padding at all, I can feel each cross of the lace on the top of my foot, and I get that we are making the tongue thinner for weight reduction, flexibility and temperature control but it’s not comfortable at all. Fourth: the pull on tab, it’s just a flap of soft fabric like the tongue of the shoe, makes me feel like the shoe is already collapsing at the heel. -Tongue and tab together make it feel almost sock like and it’s not what I want in a running shoe. Overall I would not recommend this shoe to anyone, I loved my adrenaline gts 23s and my ghost 16s, I lament my ghost 18s and often find myself continuing to wear my ghost 16s even though they have no tread left in the ball, but they have a ton of heal support left in them that these 18s don’t have out of the box.

I am a nurse and I am on my feet a lot! I always recommend them to my friends and family! My husband works in the automotive industry and walks all day in a plant and he also is a brooks fan now! He says they are so much better than the other brands. Between work and walking my dog I get a lot of steps in and these shoes hold up very good!

Too much material in Toe-Box and no ankle padding.

Originally posted on brooksrunning.com

I've owned every Ghost from Ghost 13 through Ghost 17. The Ghost 18 had so much extra material in the toe box that it creased excessively and caused a blister on the top of my foot near the tongue. The upper material is not as comfortable as previous versions and there is no padding on the top of the ankle pad, which in turn caused skin irritation. The comfort of the soles is incredible. These need to be redisigned like the 17's but with padding along the top of the ankle openings.
